UPC Grants Oxford Nanopore Injunction Against MGI
The Munich Local Division of the Unified Patent Court granted Oxford Nanopore Technologies a preliminary injunction against MGI Tech GmbH on September 16, 2026. The order prohibits MGI from making, offering, placing on the market, using, importing, storing, supplying or offering to supply Cyclone Sequencing Systems and related flow cells that allegedly infringe Oxford Nanopore patents EP 2 422 198 and EP 2 715 343.
The injunction covers Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Ireland (limited in Ireland to use with a flow cell). It is effective immediately and enforceable pending appeal, with penalty payments for non-compliance.
Oxford Nanopore stated it will commence proceedings for a permanent injunction, with trial scheduled for October 2027. The company said the ruling protects the intellectual property underpinning its nanopore sensing platform.
