USPTO Mandates Registration for Open Data Portal Access

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office announced that access to its Open Data Portal will require registration with a USPTO.gov account starting June 18, 2026. The portal, available since February 2025, hosts publicly accessible patent and trademark datasets. The change aims to enhance data security, reduce bot traffic, and enable better customer profiling for future improvements. Existing account holders can sign in directly, while new users must complete registration steps. Additional profile information may be requested later in the summer.

The requirement applies to all users seeking access to the unified data platform.
