USPTO Abandons Board of Peace Trademark Applications
The USPTO abandoned trademark applications it filed in December for the name and logo of the Board of Peace. Director John Squires filed statements of abandonment on the eve of the July 4 holiday weekend.
The applications sought registration rights after a cybersquatter registered a related domain name. The board's charter includes provisions for permanent membership by states contributing one billion dollars each.
The move ends the agency's effort to secure branding rights for the initiative.
