UPC Grants InterDigital Third Injunction Against Disney
The Düsseldorf Local Division of the Unified Patent Court on September 2 awarded InterDigital a third injunction against The Walt Disney Company in an ongoing patent dispute. The ruling covers Germany and the Netherlands and addresses a patent for technology enabling seamless viewing when sharing video content across devices. InterDigital said the judgment also confirmed the patent's validity. Disney may appeal the decision.
This marks the third UPC injunction InterDigital has secured against Disney. Prior rulings addressed patents related to high-efficiency video coding techniques. The latest patent-in-suit focuses on screen-casting functions in streaming services.
InterDigital Chief Legal Officer Josh Schmidt stated the patent exemplifies the company's contributions to streaming processing, distribution, and user experience. The dispute stems from litigation InterDigital filed last year alleging infringement of its intellectual property by Disney's services.
