NHL Contacts Colorado High School Over Sabres Logo Similarity

The National Hockey League has contacted the Cherry Creek School District regarding Smoky Hill High School's use of a buffalo logo similar to the Buffalo Sabres' trademarked goathead design. The school in Aurora, Colorado, has employed the logo since at least 2001.

In response, the district announced that Smoky Hill will not sell merchandise featuring the current buffalo logo starting this fall while exploring options. The NHL confirmed ongoing discussions with the district about continued use of the trademarked element.

The Sabres' logo in question is a retro design from the team's earlier years. District communications to the community highlighted the need to address the trademark concerns raised by the league.

No further enforcement actions have been detailed publicly at this stage. The matter remains under discussion between the parties.
