Meta Defeats EUIPO Challenge Over Infinity Logo Trademark
On August 17, 2026, the European Union Intellectual Property Office upheld Meta Platforms Inc.'s trademark registration featuring an infinity logo. The decision followed a challenge by German company ThinkMeta Software, which claimed earlier rights in its name.
EUIPO determined that the opposing rights did not demonstrate more than "mere local significance," a requirement under EU trademark law for successful opposition or cancellation based on earlier unregistered rights. The ruling allows Meta to maintain its registration.
The case highlights the evidentiary threshold for proving the scope of earlier rights in EU trademark proceedings. Meta's logo, used in connection with its social media and technology services, remains protected at the EU level.
No further appeals details were immediately available in public reports.
