India Supreme Court Declines to Intervene in Harpic Bottle Dispute

13 September 2026

The Supreme Court of India declined to interfere with a Calcutta High Court order that set aside an ad-interim injunction in the dispute between Reckitt Benckiser and Godrej Consumer Products.

The case centers on alleged infringement of the Harpic toilet cleaner bottle design and disparagement through advertising of a competing product launched in October 2025.

The Division Bench of the Calcutta High Court had overturned the single judge's injunction granted in February 2026, leaving the issues open for full trial.

The Supreme Court left all questions of merits for determination by the lower court without examining them at this stage.
