Freeplay Sues Former Bodybuilder Over Mr. America Mark

Freeplay LLC, organizer of the annual Mr. America bodybuilding competition in Atlantic City, has sued former bodybuilder Benyamin Samimi in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. The complaint alleges that Samimi knowingly infringed the company's trademark rights by attempting to seize control of the "Mr. America" brand following an inadvertent lapse in registration.

According to the filing, Samimi has promoted competing events and merchandise using the mark, despite the company's long-standing use and registration history. Freeplay claims the actions constitute trademark infringement and unfair competition under federal and state law.

The suit seeks injunctive relief and damages. It highlights risks associated with lapses in trademark maintenance and the potential for third parties to exploit such gaps.

The case, filed on or around June 13, 2026, is one of several recent actions involving legacy event trademarks in the fitness and entertainment sectors.
