Florida Trademark Registration Law Takes Effect July 1
House Bill 679, signed by Governor Ron DeSantis on April 14, 2026, modernized Florida's state trademark registration system effective July 1, 2026. The law brings state procedures into closer alignment with federal Lanham Act standards and international norms.
Key changes include updated classification requirements, streamlined application processes, and revised renewal procedures. State registrations will now better coordinate with federal filings for businesses operating primarily within Florida.
Brand owners and in-house counsel in the state are advised to review existing state marks for compliance with the new rules during the transition period. The legislation is intended to reduce administrative burdens while enhancing protection consistency.
