Elf Labs Secures Final RAPUNZEL Trademark Protection

The US Supreme Court declined to review a petition challenging United Trademark Holdings' RAPUNZEL trademark registration for dolls and toy figures. The denial, following earlier wins in federal courts, renders the protection final and binding.

United Trademark Holdings, parent of Elf Labs, had prevailed before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and the Federal Circuit on the issue of who may challenge a registered mark. The courts held that the Lanham Act protects commercial interests rather than downstream consumer concerns.

The outcome solidifies trademark rights across Elf Labs' portfolio of more than 500 fairy tale character assets. The company plans further development, including a theatrical release in China and preparations for public markets.

The decision reinforces standards for trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings, limiting challenges from parties without direct commercial stake.
