Demon Hunter Sues Netflix Over KPop Demon Hunters Trademark

20 August 2026

Christian metal band Demon Hunter, through its corporation Hyde Lane, sued Netflix, Netflix Studios, and concert promoter AEG Presents in California federal court on August 19, 2026. The complaint alleges trademark infringement, unfair competition, and false designation of origin related to Netflix's animated film KPop Demon Hunters and an associated concert tour.

Demon Hunter claims rights in the DEMON HUNTER mark, used for over 25 years in music and merchandise. The suit states that the similarity in names has caused consumer confusion, including instances where fans purchased tickets to the wrong events. The band seeks an injunction barring use of the mark in connection with music, merchandise, or live events, along with monetary damages and a jury trial.

The filing highlights alleged awareness by defendants of the band's existing trademark rights prior to adopting the similar name. Demon Hunter requests cancellation of any conflicting rights and restoration of its commercial interests in the mark.

This action follows the release of the Netflix film and promotion of related live performances.
