Delhi High Court Cancels ZOOOK Copyright Registration

The Delhi High Court has set aside a copyright registration granted to Gujarat Pesticides Pvt. Ltd. for an artistic work and packaging label titled “ZOOOK.”

In a judgment delivered in late May 2026 and reported in early June, Justice Jyoti Singh allowed a petition by Fortune Marketing Private Limited, owner of registered ZOOOK trademarks and its own copyright in a device mark. The court found that the copyright registration process began from an incorrect starting point because the search certificate relied upon was flawed.

The ruling underscores the separation between trademark and copyright protections while emphasizing procedural requirements for copyright grants. The court directed fresh consideration of the matter after hearing both parties.

The decision illustrates how Indian courts address overlaps between trademark registrations and copyright claims in commercial labeling disputes.
