Buc-ee's Sues Georgia Convenience Store Over Mascot and Branding

Buc-ee's, the Texas-based travel center chain, initiated a trademark infringement action in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia on or about May 1, 2026. The complaint targets Teddy's Market, a smaller convenience store operator with locations in Georgia, claiming the defendant adopted an anthropomorphic animal mascot and overall branding that creates a likelihood of confusion.

According to court filings, Buc-ee's alleges that Teddy's uses a smiling animal figure with design elements, including eye highlights and geometric shapes, that are substantially similar to its well-known beaver logo. The complaint further asserts that the names "Buc-ee's" and "Teddy's" share phonetic and structural similarities likely to deceive consumers regarding source or affiliation.

Buc-ee's seeks injunctive relief to halt the alleged use of the disputed branding, destruction of infringing materials, and denial of Teddy's pending USPTO trademark applications. The plaintiff also claims damages arising from lost sales and dilution of its brand goodwill built since 1982.

Teddy's Market has not yet filed a response in the publicly reported proceedings. The case remains in its early stages before the Atlanta federal court.
