BharatPe and PhonePe Settle Long-Running 'Pe' Trademark Dispute
BharatPe and PhonePe have reached a settlement in their longstanding trademark dispute concerning the use of the suffix 'Pe' in their respective marks. The agreement ends all legal proceedings before the Delhi and Bombay High Courts and leads to the withdrawal of mutual oppositions to trademark registrations.
Both parties issued a joint statement confirming that the resolution allows each to focus on business growth without further litigation. BharatPe chairman Rajnish Kumar described the outcome as positive for the industry, noting the professional approach taken by both sides. PhonePe founder and CEO Sameer Nigam expressed satisfaction that the settlement enables concentration on expanding digital payment ecosystems in India.
The dispute had involved multiple oppositions and infringement claims spanning several years. With the settlement in place, the companies have committed to complying with its terms and taking all necessary steps to finalize the resolution of their trademark matters.
