Baylor, Boston Universities Settle Interlocking BU Logo Dispute

11 September 2026

Baylor University informed the US District Court for the Western District of Texas on September 10, 2026, that it has reached at least a partial settlement with the Trustees of Boston University in a dispute over an interlocking “BU” logo.

Baylor sued in August 2025, alleging that Boston University’s use of the interlocked design on campus store products since 2018 and in club sports infringed its historic trademark and violated a prior agreement. Baylor did not object to side-by-side stylized marks but opposed the interlocking version.

The parties are negotiating a written agreement, which Baylor expects to finalize soon, and will file a notice of dismissal or status update by September 23, 2026. The case remains pending until the filing.

Counsel for Baylor is Pirkey Barber PLLC; K&L Gates LLP represents Boston University. The case is Baylor Univ. v. Trustees of Boston Univ., W.D. Tex., No. 6:25-cv-00352.
