A La Carte Defends Against Boudreaux Trademark Suit

Gretna, Louisiana-based A La Carte Specialty Foods is defending a trademark infringement lawsuit filed in June by Gulf Marine Products. The suit alleges unauthorized use of the Boudreaux mark for breaded oysters and false association via UPC codes with A La Carte's new FanSEA line.

GMP claims it terminated a license in October 2025 and seeks up to $2 million in damages, fees, and product seizure. No written license agreement existed due to familial ties between the companies.

A La Carte President Karl Turner stated the company disputes the claims and had planned the FanSEA transition independently. Turner emphasized A La Carte's role in developing the breaded oyster category over 20 years and noted new product launches under FanSEA, including NOLA Cats wild blue catfish and Louisiana-inspired soups.

The company is addressing alleged misleading statements to customers while continuing operations. The case remains pending.
